Summary. The purpose of the study is to analyze the nature, content, timing and sequence of radiation and hygienic protective measures in the aftermath of the radiation accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in April 1986 and in subsequent years.
Research materials and methods. Research materials – documented experience in eliminating the consequences of the radiation accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Research methods – analysis and forecasting methods.
Research results and analysis. The radiation and health physics standards, control indicators and methodology for monitoring the radiation situation and safety assuring during the activities aimed at elimination of Chernobyl nuclear power plant accidental aftermath developed by professionals during this period are presented. The objectives and prospects for further regulation and improvement of the radiation safety system in our country are considered and substantiated.
