Yu.E. Barachevskiy is 80 years old. P. 98

On April 29, 2025, Yuri Evlampievich Barachevsky, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Military Sciences of the Russian Federation, turned 80 years old.

After studying in 1962-1968 at the medical faculty of the Arkhangelsk State Medical University (ASMU) and the military medical faculty of the Gorky State Medical Institute, Yuri Yevlampievich received the specialty of “physician of medical and preventive care” and the qualification of “military doctor”. In 1968-1972, he served in the military as the head of the medical service of a submarine in the Northern Fleet. During autonomous campaigns, he performed 4 abdominal surgeries. In 1972-1973, Yu.E. Barachevsky worked as a senior lecturer at the 22nd Internship of Medical Personnel of the Northern Fleet, in 1973-1995 – lecturer, senior lecturer and head of the cycle of the naval department of ASMU. In 1992, he was awarded the academic title of associate professor of the naval department. In 1995, with the military rank of Colonel of the Medical Service, he was discharged into the reserve; since 2005, he has been retired.

In 1995–2008, Yu.E. Barachevsky headed the mobilization department of the Arkhangelsk Region Health Department, organized and supervised mobilization work in the field of healthcare and disaster medicine on a regional scale. With his direct participation, the Arkhangelsk Regional Center for Disaster Medicine was created as a legal entity (2000).

He holds the title of State Counselor of the 1st class of the Russian Federation and the Arkhangelsk Region. In 1995–1996, he taught part-time at the M.V. Lomonosov Pomor State University.

Since 2008, he continued his scientific and pedagogical activity as a chief researcher of the Central Research Laboratory and associate professor of the Department of Biological Chemistry and Toxicology of the Northern State Medical University (SSMU). In August 2009, he created and headed the Department of Mobilization Preparation of Healthcare and Disaster Medicine of SSMU.

Under the supervision of Yuri Evlampievich Barachevsky, 6 candidate dissertations in the specialty “Safety in Emergencies” were successfully defended. In this specialty, the department he heads has postgraduate and doctoral programs.

Yu.E. Barachevsky organized and took part in regional and all-Russian exercises on organizing work in the event of mass casualty incidents, participated in the elimination of medical and sanitary consequences of emergency situations in the Arkhangelsk region. He annually took part in regional, all-Russian and international scientific and practical conferences on disaster medicine.

Author of over 350 scientific papers, including 7 textbooks; 77 articles published in publications recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation, and 6 articles published in leading foreign publications. Member of the editorial board of the journal “Bulletin of Ambulance Care” of the Lugansk People’s Republic.

Since 2012, Yu.E. Barachevsky is the chief freelance specialist of the Arkhangelsk Region Ministry of Health in disaster medicine, since 2015 – chairman of the regional branch of the “Risk Analysis Society”; member of the dissertation council of SSMU on safety in emergency situations; member of several academic councils of SSMU, member of the problem commission of SSMU on hygiene, medical ecology and safety in emergency situations. He has an honorary title – Honorary Doctor of SSMU.

Yu.E. Barachevsky was awarded: 14 government and departmental medals, three departmental honorary badges, gratitude from the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, certificates from the Governor and Director of the Department of Health of the Arkhangelsk Region, and the Rector of SSMU.
