Abstract. The multi-faceted activity of a number of leading military field surgeons of the country during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 is presented.

It is noted that the main direction in the system of medical and evacuation support of troops both in the previous wars and during the Great Patriotic War was military field surgery. The characteristic is given of providing qualified and specialized surgical care in the army – the Central link – the Chief Surgeon of the Red Army and his deputies; front-line level – the main surgeons of the fronts; the army link – army urgeons and next – leading experts of the field offices and front-line evacuation centres, leading surgeons of the army and military hospitals and medical battalions.
