Abstract. The contribution of health care structures and military medicine to the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 is presented. The main results of the work of the medical service of the Armed forces of the USSR during the war are analyzed.

It is noted that the military medical doctrine developed in early 1942 was crucial for the practical implementation and successful functioning of the medical evacuation system during the war. The data on irretrievable and sanitary losses in the Armed forces, the number of returned to service, etc. are given. A brief description of the contingent of chief medical specialists of the fronts and fleets is given.
