Summary. The purpose of this study was to develop and justify a research agenda in the field of first aid (FA) for the Russian Federation.
Materials and methods of research. The research agenda definition process was comprehensive and systematic, consisting of the following sequential stages: 1 – bibliometric analysis of international scientific experience in the field of FA – analysis of English-language publications; 2 – bibliometric analysis of domestic scientific research in the field of FA – analysis of Russian-language publications whose primary authors are affiliated with Russian institutions; 3 – analysis of foreign and domestic scientific publications containing qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the reasons for emergency medical care visits as a reflection of the need for FA; 4 – synthesis of the research agenda by summarizing the results obtained in the previous stages of the work, taking into account and in the context of current issues in the organization and functioning of the first aid system in the Russian Federation.
A detailed description of the materials and methods for bibliometric studies of foreign and domestic literature on first aid is presented in separate publications.
Research methods – universal methods of cognition, empirical and theoretical scientific methods, including observation, description, comparison, generalization, analysis, and synthesis.
Research results and their analysis. The current agenda of scientific research in the field of FA in the Russian Federation provides for the inclusion in the focus of scientific research on FA of myocardial infarction and stroke as widespread health disorders that cause high levels of disability and mortality of the population; inclusion in the focus of research of elevated body temperature, high blood pressure, chest pain (discomfort), abdominal pain, respiratory disturbances, seizures and disturbances of consciousness as conditions that cause a high frequency of utilization of emergency medical services by the population, in which the provision of FA can help prevent complications and reduce the burden on the healthcare system; performing thematic reviews of scientific literature, international consensuses and sets of practical recommendations, conducting original descriptive and analytical studies, original experimental studies, scientific and theoretical conceptual studies aimed at determining the best methods and solutions in the field of organizing the provision of FA, training in FA, popularising FA, equipment for the provision of FA, monitoring the frequency and effectiveness of FA and normative legal regulation in the field of FA. The presented agenda expresses the agreed opinion of the Expert Council for Scientific Research on First Aid at the Profile Commission on First Aid of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation regarding the priority areas of scientific research as of 2025 aimed at improving FA as a highly promising health-saving resource, and is recommended for use by interested research organizations, research teams and individual scientists as a guideline and justification when planning their own research in the field of FA.
