Summary. The purpose is to develop an organizational and functional model of the humanitarian unit, determine the place and role, a list of its tasks in the general structure of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Materials and research methods. Data from open sources, materials on the activities of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation.

Research methods: analytical, content analysis method, direct observation, comparison and description methods.

The results of the study and their analysis. The importance of international humanitarian law and humanitarian measures carried out by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during the period of military conflicts and the elimination of the medical and sanitary consequences of natural, technogenic and social emergencies was noted.

It was determined that the medical service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has accumulated significant experience in participating in peacekeeping operations and carrying out humanitarian activities. For this, it is necessary to have specialized humanitarian units of modular composition, including leadership, headquarters, logistics and engineering, medical and psychological support.
