It is noted that the problem of safety of medical institutions in emergency situations is very relevant for the Republic of Moldova, the territory of which is exposed to the risk of a number of destructive natural and man-made factors. In this connection, an assessment of the level of hospital safety in the Republic of Moldova was carried out with the use of the new at that time methodology «Hospital Safety Index» in 2010. The results of the evaluation served the basis for the development and implementation of a program to strengthen the safety of hospitals in the Republic of Moldova for 2012–2016 period. Because of the expiration of the Program, as well as for the sake of a more objective assessment of its effectiveness, a re-assessment of the safety of hospitals in the Republic of Moldova was carried out in 2016 using an improved version of the methodology «Hospital Safety Index», the results of which are presented in the article.
